This policy applies to use of the SCC website (www.scc.virginia.gov).

Information we collect

The Commission collects minimum information needed to provide services.
 
 “Cookies” are small files stored on a user's computer. They are designed to hold data specific to the user and website, and can be accessed either party. Cookies allow delivery of a more tailored website experience.
Some sections of the SCC website use cookies to customize the information presented to you.  The information collected is also used to improve our web services. The information is not personally viewable, and no attempt is made to link it with individuals browsing the SCC website.
 
If you do nothing except browse or download information during your visit to the SCC website, the following information will be automatically collected and stored:

Portions of the SCC website may require the submission of information via e-mail, web-based forms, or other electronic means. Information you provide will be used only for the purpose as described when it is collected. The SCC does not reveal specific information about users or other personally identifiable data to unaffiliated third parties for their independent use.
 
The SCC protects records in accordance with applicable Virginia statutes, including, but not limited to, the "Government Data Collection and Dissemination Practices Act" (Code of Virginia, § 2.2-3800), "Administration of systems including personal information; Internet privacy policy; exceptions" (Code of Virginia, § 2.2-3803 and § 59.1-496 of the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act), and applicable U.S. federal laws.

Website Security

SCC security standards and procedures are in place to protect the integrity of the website and to prevent unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or otherwise cause damage. Attempts to modify any information, to defeat or circumvent security features, or to utilize any SCC system for other than its intended purposes are prohibited.
 
Information pertaining to an individual suspected of such activity will be traced and released to law enforcement to investigate alleged criminal activity.

Certain applications require authentication through the issuance of User IDs and Passwords. Responsibility for safeguarding the confidentiality of a User ID and Password rests solely with the person to whom the User ID and Password were issued.

Attribution of Content

Information on the SCC website is public and should not be used for commercial purposes beyond its intended public availability. Permission is granted to make fair use of the contents of the SCC website. Attribution of the source of the information is encouraged. Linking Policy

The SCC website contains hypertext links that may redirect you to external websites and pages containing information created and maintained by public entities and private organizations independent of the SCC.  The SCC website policy does not apply to linked external websites.
 
The SCC makes the sole determination as to which external websites will be linked or removed. The inclusion of a hypertext link to an external website is not intended as an endorsement of any product or service offered or referenced on the linked website, the organizations sponsoring said website, or any views that might be expressed or referenced in the website.
