Visit the Clerk's Information System (CIS) and create your account today! If you are seeing the error message, "Experian was not able to verify the name and home address combination," please visit our support page for troubleshooting tips and to contact the Clerk's office for resolution.

The Clerk’s Information System or CIS is Virginia's resource to search for business information, submit filings and make payments. This tool saves you time by preventing common processing errors.

Your first step is to create an account. This video will walk you through registering and accessing this tool for the first time. Let's start by going to cis.scc.Virginia.gov.

The homepage provides search capability, helpful links, and a place where businesses can log in to perform specific activities. Click the green registration button to create your new account.

The Account Creation page will open. In the first section enter your name and in the following section you will enter your mailing address and phone number. You may use your personal or your business information to populate this section.

The next section is where you will enter your home address and cell phone number. Be sure to enter your home address not your business address. You may experience an error in this section, if you have recently moved or accidentally entered a work address. If that is the case, please check out our frequently asked questions for troubleshooting.

In the next section, you will create your username and password for the system. The password must be at least eight characters, including a capital letter, a lower-case letter and a special character. When all this information is complete, click the check box and then click submit.

Our third-party vendor will send a password verification code to your cell phone. Enter the code on the Password Verification screen and click submit.

Congratulations, you now have an account.

Now that you have an account, you have access to an online dashboard. Initially, your dashboard will be empty. You will need to complete a transaction, such as paying your annual fee, to link your dashboard to your business. Once this has occurred, your dashboard will start to display online payments and other correspondences.
