NOTICE FOR INSURANCE AGENCIES CONDUCTING INSURANCE BUSINESS
IN VIRGINIA*** |
The Bureau of Insurance
conducted a review of its records and the Office of the Clerk’s
records and mailed a letter dated February 29, 2008 to all insurance
agencies that do not hold the requisite Charter or Certificate
of Authority in the Office of Clerk of the State Corporation Commission
to transact business in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
If the agency does not have an active
Charter or Certificate of Authority
with the Clerk’s Office and the Bureau’s
records confirm the agency is currently
licensed, three things can happen. Either
the agency can obtain the requisite
Charter/Certificate of Authority and
continue to transact business in Virginia,
or the agency can withdraw its license
using the form that was provided, http://www.scc.virginia.gov/division/boi/webpages/inspagedocs/agency_withdrawal.pdf,
or the agency’s license will be terminated
by the Bureau.
To receive the requisite Charter/Certificate
of Authority, one must have it issued
by the Clerk’s Office. It is the responsibility
of the agency to make sure it has the
requisite Charter/Certificate of Authority
before transacting the business of insurance
in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Please
use the following link, http://www.scc.virginia.gov/clk/formfee.aspx,
to obtain the required form to file
with the Virginia Clerk’s Office. Please
call the Clerk’s Office at 804-371-9733
if you have any questions about which
form to file or on what is required
to be filed.
If this letter was received in error, please email Richard Tozer
at bureauofinsurance@scc.virginia.gov
and provide the agency’s name and FEIN that is in the letter and
the ID number assigned by the Office of the Clerk. |
