A Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) is an arrangement which provides, pays for, or reimburses any part of the cost of health care services for plan members. Participating providers enter into contracts with the HMO and receive payment directly from the HMO. In return, the participating provider gives health care services to enrollees and agrees to hold those enrollees harmless from payment with the exception of copayments or deductibles.
