Participating in Cases
The State Corporation Commission encourages public participation in cases before it.
Because of its wide-ranging regulatory authority, SCC decisions often impact residents of the Commonwealth.
Appearing as a public witness requires no pre-filing of comments. You need only
appear 15 minutes before the hearing and notify the SCC bailiff
that you wish to testify. You may call the bailiff in the Clerk's
Office before the hearing to be sure the case will proceed as scheduled. (804-371-9739)
Public witnesses are not required to file written comments; however,
these comments are welcome. Call the Document Control Center of
the Clerk's Office to determine the case number and deadlines for
filing. (804-371-9033)
For those cases in which notice is provided, the Commission accepts
electronic filing of comments and/or requests for hearing from public witnesses.
You may access current case information through the Commission's
online DocketSearch feature. To obtain official copies of documents,
contact the Document Control Center of the Clerk's Office where
you may order documents for a fee. You may also visit the SCC
to review documents on site.
Cases likely to generate wide public interest are broadcast
over the Internet via a Commission webcast. Visit the Case
Information section of our website for a schedule of cases to be
webcast and information on how to listen.
